The Big Ride for Palestine (Australia) rides in solidarity with Palestinian struggle.
Now running for seven years we have raised over $150,000 for APHEDA projects supporting Palestinian people. Last year we raised around $23,000 which was directed to educational programs for youth in Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon, run by the Palestinian Women’s Humanitarian Organisation.
In 2023 we will continue our organisation developed during the Covid pandemic, where participants ride or walk a self-nominated distance over a fortnight, seeking sponsorship from friends and supporters of Palestine. This allows people to join from across Australia, in turn increasing participation awareness and fundraising.
Funds raised in The Big Ride for Palestine will be directed to Palestinian projects run by Union-Aid Abroad-APHEDA, who will decide on priorities in association with partner organisations in Palestine and the refugee camps in Lebanon.

The Big Ride was initiated in 2015 by activists in Britain, Ireland and beyond who wanted to combine our love of cycling with support for the Palestinian people. We staged a marathon ride from Edinburgh to London over nine days on the first anniversary of the bombardment of Gaza, raising over £65,000 for projects to help children recover from the loss and trauma they suffered.
In 2016 we staged a four-legged ride converging on Birmingham for a community festival followed by a mass ride to Shenstone where we successfully blockaded the UAV factory in protest at its selling drones to Israel.
In 2017 we bought the ride to Australia with 22 riders cycling 195 km from Brisbane to Byron Bay. This was in solidarity with the Big Ride both in the UK and Palestine. In Australia riders and volunteers found the opportunity to open a dialogue with each other and the community about the situation in Palestine. The ride also raised a total of $18,408 donated to APHEDA for the Hebron Children's education project. The money went to the Shuhada early education centre in Hebron. The centre relies on continued support to pay teacher salaries, purchase education equipment and keep the lights on.
In 2018, raising over $14,000 with 38 riders in total. Riding a very similar route to 2017, the riders took to the road and continued to spread awareness for Palestine and fundraising for the Hebron's Children's education project. We did it all again in 2019, riding from Brisbane to Brunswick Heads and raising approximately $10,000 for the Sustainable Agriculture Project in Palestine through Union Aid Abroad APHEDA.
The Big Ride for Palestine - Australia is a small, not-for-profit volunteer group made up of cyclists and volunteers from previous years. LeftPress Printing Society, operating since 1988, supports us by acting as our financial banking account and all money received by the Big Ride for Palestine - Australia goes through their accounts. These accounts can be made available to any organisations/persons upon request. In 2021, all funds go directly through the online fundraising platform Raisely to Union Aid Abroad APHEDA.
The Big Ride for Palestine - Australia acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the country where we live, travel and work and recognise their continuing cultural and spiritual connection to land, waters and community. We pay our respects to them and their cultures; and to the Ancestors, Elders both past and present, and future generations.
